Erik Portanger

Founder, Alchemy Wine Collections

Erik Portanger brings over 25 years of expertise in building fine wine collections for both investment and personal enjoyment. His journey began in the late 1990s as a journalist for the Wall Street Journal, where he wrote regularly about the business of fine wine and its emergence as a unique alternative investment.

He later transitioned into finance, working at Morgan Stanley and the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, before entering the wine business full-time. Erik co-founded 1275 Collections in Geneva and currently serves as Managing Director of Wine Management SICAV, one of Europe's fastest-growing wine investment funds.

Erik founded Alchemy Wine Collections in Prague in 2020 to complement his other activities with a more personalised service for discerning high-net-worth investors. As an independent adviser, he ensures every portfolio is uniquely designed to meet each client's specific goals, sourced from the entire universe of investable wines.
